Creating/Editing the Mobile-Terminated Message Contents

Creating/Editing the Mobile-Terminated Message Contents

Last updated: January 3, 2008

This section is applicable to the lab application and to a test application with the required feature license.

You can enter/edit the message contents to be sent to the mobile station (MS) from the Create/Edit menu which is accessed by pressing the F5 ( Short Message Service ) on Call Control 3 of 3 menu, and then pressing the F4 ( Create/Edit Message ). You can:

For details on front panel operation, see STEP B: Create/Edit the Mobile-Terminated Message Contents .

Set Message Source

Message Source ( F3 ): Select either ASCII or Hex data entry messages to be edited (see Enter/Edit Message Contents ) or included in the SMS message sent to the mobile station.

See also CALL:SMService:MTERminated:SOURce .

Set Message Repeat

Message Repeat ( F4 ): Set the number of times the user entered message will be repeated to build the actual message to be sent to the MS. See also CALL:SMService:MTERminated:MESSage:REPeat .

It provides a way to define a message that is longer than the maximum length allowed by the user input message (255 Ascii or 511 Hex) or construct a long string without having to enter a long string. The user input message is possibly padded with '0's (zeros) due to the setting of the Message Encoding (see Message Encoding ) before being repeated and the actual message transmitted may be truncated. See How Does the Test Set Build the Mobile-Terminated Message? for details.

Setting Message Repeat to '0' (zero) results in the SMS message being "" (null, 0 length) regardless of the user input message contents in the Mobile-Terminated Message window.

Enter/Edit Message Contents

Depending upon the setting of the Message Source ( F3 ), pressing F1 ( Enter/Edit SMS Message ) will bring up either Enter/Edit SMS Message (ASCII) menu or Enter/Edit SMS Message (HEX) menu where you can enter/edit the desired short text message, one input character at a time along with editing commands using the following settings. To enter a message with multiple characters at a time, use CALL:SMService:MTERminated:MESSage:ASCii or CALL:SMService:MTERminated:MESSage:HEX . The entered text messages are displayed in the Mobile-Terminated Message window.

Clear the Created Message

Clear Message ( F2 ): Clear the entire message displayed on the Mobile-Terminated Message window and set character index to 0.

NOTE
The test set provides two separate message entry/data storage: SMS message (ASCII) and SMS message (Hex). Clear Message only clears the active message entry which is determined by the setting of Message Source ( F3 ).
