Cell Selection Indicator

Cell Selection Indicator

Last updated: December 3, 2008

This section is only applicable to the lab applications.

Description

The Cell Selection Indicator (CSI) parameter specifies whether the optional CSI IE (information element) is present in the Layer 3 Channel Release message, and also if the CSI IE is present which cell information is present within the CSI IE (either GSM or UTRAN FDD). The CSI IE indicates on which frequency/cell the cell selection after channel release will be performed.

For more information about Cell Selection Indicator, please refer to 3GPP TS 44.018 Section 10.5.2.1e.

The actual cell information that is populated in the CSI IE (if present) is taken from the currently configured Neighbor Cell entries. (See Cell Lists for more information about the Neighbor Cells.) The entries used for populating the CSI IE are the first N enabled entries in the appropriate Neighbor Cell list with the following constraints:

If the current value of the Cell Selection Indicator parameter is not OFF and the associated neighbor cell list does not contain any enabled entries, then the CSI IE shall not be presented in the Layer 3 Channel Release message.

The GPIB command to set the Cell Selection Indicator parameter is CALL:TCHannel:SIGNaling:DCCHannel:CSINdicator .

Manual Operation

The following procedure details how to set the Cell Selection Indicator.

  1. Press the CALL SETUP screen key.
  2. Press TCH Parameters ( F8 ).
  3. Press the More key until screen 3 of 3 of the TCH Parameters menu is displayed.
  4. Press Call Signaling Parameters ( F7 ) and the Call Signaling Parameters menu appears in the center of the screen.
  5. Use the knob to highlight and set CSI in DCCH Release .

Operating Considerations

The Cell Selection Indicator can be modified in any operating mode, however the values will only be applicable in Active Cell Operating Modes.

In Two-Cell Test System , if the content of the neighbor cell entries presented in the CSI IE within the Layer 3 Channel Release message (which is sent from the test set that the mobile is currently camped to) does not address the current configuration of the other test set, the mobile station will camp to the original cell if it determines this cell as still suitable.
