Uplink State Flag (USF)

Uplink State Flag (USF)

Last updated: December 3, 2008

The USF, or Uplink State Flag, allows the multiplexing of several MS onto a single uplink PDTCH. The USF value is sent to the mobile station in a Packet Immediate Assignment message. The USF is also sent in Packet Uplink Assignment and Packet Timeslot Reconfigure messages.

You can determine how well the mobile station reallocates its transmission to the appropriate uplink block by changing the USF value during a data transmission.

  1. Establish a GPRS data link and start transferring data.
  2. On the Control menu ( 1 of 3 ), press Handover Setup ( F5 ).
  3. Press GPRS Handover Setup (F2)
  4. Scroll to Uplink State Flag and enter a new value.
  5. Press Handover Execute ( F5 ).
  6. Verify that the MS transmits on the block corresponding to the new USF. Incorrect transmissions show up as USF BLER.
