FAQ: In the E4351B power supply, what causes the “SERIAL DOWN ” runtime error?

The “Serial Down” error is not often a hard failure. It can generally be attributed to one of the following sources:

  1. Communications cable from GPIB to the Front Panel not properly seated or intermittent
  2. One of the socketed components on the Front Panel or GPIB not properly seated or intermittent

The E4351B is obsolete as of June 1, 2013 and will be out of support on June 1, 2018.
