Test Set User Accounts

Last Updated: August 29, 2007

This topic provides information about the built-in user accounts that are present on the test set when it is shipped from the factory and details about creating your own user accounts.

Built-in User Accounts

Administrator account

The Administrator account allows full access to the test set.  Using the Administrator account, you can do the following:

When the test set is first turned On, the Administrator account is the one that you use by default to log on to, and log off from Windows XP. The initial password set for this account is “agilent4u”.

AgilentOnly account

The AgilentOnly account has administrator privileges.  This account has been created by Agilent for customer support purposes so you are not able to access it. You must ensure that this account is not deleted.

Guest account

The Guest account allows anyone to type in any name, without a password, and gain limited access to the test set's files. This account is created by Windows and cannot be deleted. However, it can be renamed. This account is disabled when the test set is shipped, but it can be enabled if required.

Creating Additional User Accounts

You can create additional user accounts and decide on the level of security granted to any new user accounts you create (for example, administrator, power user, user, backup operators). User names are not case sensitive but passwords are case sensitive.

Windows XP allows you to create a user account with administrator privileges that does not require a password. However, it is highly recommended that you do use a password for any new account created with administrator privileges, otherwise the test set is more vulnerable to viruses.

Changing User Passwords

There is a script available to allow you to change a user password. It is recommended that you always use this script to change a password rather than using the Windows XP Control Panel.

If you use the Windows XP Control Panel to change a password for a user that is part of the administrators group not all the necessary files in the test set are updated and the test set does not behave as expected, for example the test set will not automatically log on.
Also in the event that it was the Administrator account password you changed, and later you run the Agilent Recovery System your My Documents folder will be removed from the test set.

Using the Script

The script is located in the C:\Program Files\Agilent\UserConfigUtilities folder. Double-click the ChangeUserPassword.vbs to run the script.

If you have used the Windows XP Control Panel to change a user password you can resolve most issues by running the ChangeUserPassword.vbs script. However this will not resolve the issue of the My Documents folder being removed if you have used the Agilent Recovery System.

If you require more information on user accounts, see the Windows XP Help and Support Center.
