The Windows XP Setup Wizard runs the first time you turn on the test set, or after you have used the Agilent Recovery System to restore the original factory configuration of system software. It takes a few minutes for the Windows XP Setup Wizard to start the Windows XP environment. When the environment starts, the Welcome to Windows XP Setup Wizard screen is displayed.
The Windows XP Setup Wizard is used to complete the installation and configuration of the Windows XP environment. It displays a number of screens, asking you to enter information. See the following sections for more detailed instructions about some of the screens in which you need to enter information, and keyboard and front panel keys you can use if you do not have a mouse connected to the test set.
You must not turn off the test set or remove power before the Windows XP Setup Wizard completes and the system restarts. If you do, the test set's system software is corrupted and the E6601A WCTS program does not operate correctly. |
It is highly recommended that during initial test set configuration, you should connect a USB mouse and keyboard to the test set's USB-A connectors on the test set's front or rear panel. This makes it much easier to perform the initial setup tasks in the same manner as you would when using a desktop computer with a mouse and keyboard. |
To move to the License Agreement screen, perform one of the following actions:
Click Next (using a USB mouse),
press ENTER (on a USB keyboard), or
push the cursor control knob (on the test set's front panel).
The License Agreement screen asks you to accept the terms of the End-User License Agreement (EULA) for Windows XP. You must accept this agreement to continue the Windows XP installation and configuration. If you do not accept this agreement, the test set shuts down and the next time you turn on the test set, the Windows XP Setup Wizard starts from the beginning again.
For more information about the End-User License Agreement for Windows XP, see the Questions and answers about the End-User License Agreement topic in the Windows XP Help and Support Center.
If you have connected a USB mouse, position the cursor appropriately and use the left mouse button to navigate the License Agreement screen. Alternatively, the procedures for navigating this screen using a USB keyboard or the front panel are provided in the following sections.
Use the PAGE UP and PAGE DOWN keys to read the agreement.
Press the TAB key to make I accept this agreement the active item.
Press the SPACEBAR to select the agreement.
Press the TAB key until the Next button is the active item, and then press ENTER to finish this screen and move to the Date and Time Settings screen.
Use the UP ARROW and
DOWN ARROW keys to read the agreement. The Directional Arrow Keys (UP
ARROW, DOWN ARROW, LEFT ARROW, and RIGHT ARROW) are positioned directly
below the Cursor Control Knob as shown in the following graphic (outlined
with a red box).
Press the Tab Right key to make I accept this agreement the active item.
Press the Click key (directly below the UP ARROW and DOWN ARROW keys) to select the agreement.
Press the Tab Right key until the Next button is the active item, and then press the Enter key to finish this screen and move to the Date and Time Settings screen.
The Date and Time Settings screen is used to set the appropriate date, time and time zone.
If you have connected a USB mouse, position the cursor and use the left mouse button to navigate the Date and Time Settings screen. Alternatively, the procedure for navigating this screen using a USB keyboard or the front panel is as follows.
Press the TAB or SHIFT+TAB key to move between items in the Date and Time Settings screen (that is, the items under Date & Time, under Time Zone, and the Next> button).
Use the LEFT ARROW and RIGHT ARROW keys to move between different parts of the item (for example, month, day, year, and hour, minute, seconds).
Use the UP ARROW and DOWN ARROW keys to scroll through the different values available for the selected item (for example, month, day).
Use the SPACEBAR to select or clear the Automatically adjust clock for daylight saving changes check box when it is the active item.
When you have completed the date and time settings, press the TAB key until the Next button is the active item, and then press ENTER to finish this screen and continue the Windows XP Setup Wizard.
Press the Tab Right key or Tab Left key to move between items in the Date and Time Settings screen (that is, the items under Date & Time, under Time Zone, and the Next> button). The Tab Right and Tab Left keys are positioned directly below the Cursor Control Knob under DIALOG BOX NAVIGATION.
Use the LEFT ARROW and
RIGHT ARROW keys to move between different parts of the item (for example,
month, day, year, and hour, minute, seconds). The Directional Arrow Keys
(UP ARROW, DOWN ARROW, LEFT ARROW, and RIGHT ARROW) are positioned directly
below the Cursor Control Knob as shown in the following graphic (outlined
with a red box).
Use the UP ARROW and DOWN ARROW keys to scroll through the different values available for the selected item (for example, month, day).
Use the Click key (under DIALOG BOX NAVIGATION) to select or clear the Automatically adjust clock for daylight saving changes check box when it is the active item.
When you have completed the date and time settings, press the Tab Right key until the Next button is the active item, and then press the Enter key to finish this screen and continue the Windows XP Setup Wizard.
The remaining screens in the Windows XP Setup Wizard do not require you to enter any more information. The Windows XP Setup Wizard installs networking components and performs final setup tasks. The test set then restarts and the test set's E6601A WCTS program starts automatically.
After the Windows XP Setup Wizard has completed, you may want to perform additional configuration and customization of the test set's Windows XP environment. (For example, you may want to configure the test set for your Local Area Network (LAN), add additional user accounts, or configure a printer.)
For important information about the Windows settings that you can and cannot change to ensure that the test set continues to operate correctly, see Changing Windows Settings.
You can make selections or enter information using a USB mouse, USB keyboard, or the test set's front panel. The following table provides general details of keyboard and front panel shortcut keys that can be used in the Windows XP Setup Wizard when a USB mouse is not connected.

If you are having problems with the Windows XP Setup Wizard, refer to this section for troubleshooting information.
If the test set fails to start correctly after attempting or completing the Windows XP Setup Wizard, you may need to restore the original factory software system on the test set's hard disk drive. See Using the Agilent Recovery System for details.
There may be a "failure to boot" message on the test set's screen or the test set may continually try to restart. This test set state can be caused by any of the following conditions:
The Windows XP Setup Wizard window is closed before the Windows XP Setup Wizard has completed.
The test set is turned off when the Windows XP Setup Wizard is still running.
There is a loss of power to the test set when the Windows XP Setup Wizard is running.
Any of the above conditions can corrupt the contents of the test set's hard disk drive, or the Windows XP installation and configuration. You may need to restore the original factory software system on the test set's hard disk drive. See Using the Agilent Recovery System for details.
If you receive a "Failed to connect to the license server" message when the test set automatically starts the E6601A WCTS program, it is possible that the test set was turned off or the power removed before the Windows XP Setup Wizard was completed. To recover the test set from this problem, you must use the Agilent Recovery System to restore the original factory configuration of the system software on the hard disk drive. To do this, perform the following steps:
Click OK to close the "Failed to connect to the license server" message box.
When the Error 130 message box appears with the text "Configuration error: Format no longer licensed. Format was changed", close this message box and all of the programs on the test set.
Restart the test set, and after the “Agilent Technologies” logo appears, select Agilent Recovery System from the operating system selection menu, and then press Enter.
When the Agilent Recovery System has started, select 2. Recover Factory Backup Image.
After the Agilent Recovery System has completed, the test set restarts and the Windows XP Setup Wizard opens.
You must now complete the installation and configuration of the Windows XP environment using the Windows XP Setup Wizard, to fully recover the test set from this problem.
