Paging State

Paging State

Last updated: May 24, 2006

In the Paging state, the test set is paging the AT to establish a data connection. Before paging the AT, a session must be open (only the AT can initiate a session open). The test set pages the AT on the Control Channel (CCsynSS, that is Control Channel synchronous sleep state capsule).

When the test set is configured to the TAP or ETAP (see Test Application Configuration ), it pages the AT (by F3 (Start Data Connection ) or CALL:FUNCtion:DATA:STARt command) and directs the AT to send a Connection Request message (see Paging Procedure ).

( only for lab application ) when the Session Application Type is set to Default Packet Application , you can not directly page the AT in a Session Open state. The packet data connection can only be initiated from the AT. Only if the data connection status is in Dormant state, when you ping the AT from the test set or the test set receives an IP datagram from a host on the network addressed to the AT, the test set will page the AT to initiate a data connection (see AN Initiated Packet Data Connection Re-activation from Dormant State ).

The paging state is a transitory state (see TAP/ETAP Data Connection Processing Lifecycle and Packet Data Connection Processing States Lifecycle ).

To query the state of the data connection, see Data Connection State Synchronization .
