Verifying the Test Set

Description

If you are experiencing problems with your test set, first ensure that you have performed the recommended calibrations (see the "Calibrating the Test Set" topic in the Related Topics below). If you are still experiencing problems, run the following verifications to determine if a hardware failure has occurred in your test set.

Self Test

The Self Test verification checks the integrity of the test set's RF Interface module.

You do not have to perform the Self Test verification from each application/format in your test set; performing it from one application/format verifies the test set's RF Interface module.

To initiate the Self Test verification from the front panel, press the SYSTEM CONFIG key, press the right More ( 1 of 2 ) key, and select Self Test ( F8 ). To initiate the Self Test verification from a remote program, use the *TST? query (see the "IEEE 488.2 Common Commands" topic in the Related Topics below).

The Self Test verification takes approximately 30 seconds to execute, and returns 0 (pass) or -330 (fail).

Thermal Power Null Adjustment

The Thermal Power Null Adjustment is described in detail in the "Calibrating the Test Set" topic in the Related Topics below. The Thermal Power Null Adjustment is a periodic calibration that you must perform on your test set. However, if you are experiencing problems with your test set, you can also use the Thermal Power Null Adjustment to ensure that your test set's Thermal Power Detector auto-null circuit has not drifted such that it is no longer able to null the power detector. If this occurs, the Thermal Power Null Adjustment returns a 1 (fail).
