Periodic Trigger Style (Trigger)

Periodic triggering specifies that triggering will occur at regularly spaced intervals and is useful when the input signal is periodic. Except for the first trigger point, all subsequent trigger points are determined by counting samples of the input signal. Periodic triggering can be very useful for synchronizing sequential acquisitions while in free run mode.

Check the model-specific section of Measurement Platforms > Measurement Hardware for details about which of the trigger types are supported for a specific model of hardware.

Trigger parameters (including this one) affect the outcome of the time record capture from hardware when creating a recording as well as when making a measurement.

Periodic Trigger
  Parameter   Description
Period:

Period specifies the trigger interval. Set it equal to an integer multiple of the input signal period.

Default: 10 ms

Period Offset:

Period Offset adds an offset relative to the periodic triggering point. Since the periodic triggering point is arbitrary, you may need to apply a period offset to position the signal within the acquisition window as desired.

Default: 0 s

Period Offset is not included in file save/recall setup operations.

Period Offset is only enabled when Sync Source is set to Free Run.

Sync Source:

Sync Source determines how the first measurement is triggered.

Free Run: (default) The measurement uses periodic triggering in a free-running state, ignoring any external triggers.

External: When an external trigger is present, the Period timer is moved to synchronize with the external trigger. When an external trigger is not present, periodic triggering occurs in a free-running state.
