Error Checking and Disk Defragmenter Utilities

The following section describes procedures for Windows XP. Refer to the Windows 7 Help and Support to perform equivalent operating system tasks under Windows 7.

The Microsoft Windows XP operating system provides tools for error checking and defragmenting a hard disk drive (HDD).

If you believe your PXB is having problems:

However, the error checking and disk defragmenter utilities should be run routinely, about once a month. These utilities should be run more frequently if the PXB is unexpectedly shut down.

When the PXB is shut down unexpectedly or power is removed without first shutting down, large amounts of HDD space are rendered unusable. If shut down in this manner enough times, the PXB could become unstable and no longer work.
