How Do I Set Up Multiple-PDN Connections?

Last updated: December 22, 2009

This section is only applicable to the lab application.

The following conditions should be checked before setting up multiple PDN connections:

Here is an example of setting up two PDN connections, in which the DUT has its first PDN connection through IPv4 and the second through IPv6.

  1. Press the CALL SETUP key. Set the Operating Mode ( F1 ) to Active Cell and Configure the Cell Power , Cell Band , Channel to match your test conditions.
  2. Set the physical layer subtype to subtype 2.
    • Go to Call Parms 2 of 3 .
    • Press Protocol Rel ( F11 ) and select A (1xEV-DO-A) .
    • Press Protocol Subtype Config ( F12 ) and set the Release A Physical Layer Subtype to Subtype 2 .
  3. Set the Session Application Type to Alternate EMPA.
    • Press Application Config ( F10 ).
    • Highlight Session Application Type and select Alternate EMPA .
  4. Set up the Data Channel information.
    • Go to Call Control 3 of 3 , and press Data Channel Info ( F2 ).
    • Set up the authentication parameters if necessary.
      • Go to Data Channel 2 of 2 and Press EAP-AKA' Auth Info ( F1 ).
      • Press Authentication Parameters ( F1 ). Set the Authentication State to On and set the Authentication Key (K) (Hex) and the Operator Variant Alg config Field (OP) (Hex) correctly.

For EAP-AKA' authentication, make sure your UE is EAP-AKA' capable. The Authentication Key (K) (Hex) , Operator Variant Alg Config Field (OP) (Hex) and the Authentication Management Field (AMF) (Hex) must be set to the same value as they are programmed in the UE.

    • Set up the IP addresses for the test set and the DUT.
      • In Data Channel 2 of 2 , press IP Addressing Info ( F5 ).
      • Press Instrument IP Setup , use the knob to highlight LAN IP Address 2 (Data+) and set it to a valid IPv4 address.
      • Press DUT IP Setup , configure the DUT IP Version to IPv4 . Set the DUT IP Address and configure the DUT IP Address 2 Version to IPv6 .
      • Press Close Menu ( F6 ).
  5. Turn on the DUT and use its application software to configure its PDN connection type to IPv4. Configure other parameters on the DUT if necessary.
  6. After the EAP-AKA' authentication, check the authentication result to be Success and the Active Cell status field to be Session Open ..
  7. Start a data connection from the DUT. When the connection is set up, check the Active Cell status field for Connected and the IPv4 address and the PDN ID in use for this PDN connection is shown.
  8. Use the application software in the DUT to configure its PDN connection type to IPv6.
  9. When the two PDN connections are set up successfully, the IP addresses, IP version and the PDN-ID in use for each PDN connection are shown in the DUT IP Addressing (Internal PDSN) screen.
  10. You can also view the IP and RLP counters trend from the Data Counters Window:
    • Press the CALL SETUP key.
    • Press the left More key and go to Call Control 3 of 3 .
    • Press the F2 ( Data Channel Info ). The Data Counters table is displayed to provide the RLP (radio link protocol) and IP data information.
