External Trigger Style (Trigger)

Selecting External configures the measurement hardware to trigger on a signal connected to the External Trigger port (sometimes called Trigger In or Trigger In 1). The measurement hardware begins a time capture when the external trigger signal meets the trigger conditions specified, which are slope, level, and holdoff.

In a multi-channel Analyzer Configuration that contains multiple instruments (i.e. two MXAs), the external trigger signal must be connected to the Input Trigger Channel selected at the top of the Trigger tab. For example, if Input Trigger Channel is set to 1, the external trigger signal must be connected to the instrument that is capturing data for the VSA's input channel 1.

For information on triggering for specific measurement hardware, see Available Measurement Hardware for a link to your specific hardware.
